I have had the opportunity to work in schools all across New Hanover county as a sub. and there is one thing that remains consistent in every place that I have been. Teachers are truly amazing! I have met so many dedicated and hardworking individuals who truly love teaching and love their students. But what has stood out to me even more is how friendly and helpful these men and women are to each other, and to me each time I encounter them. I have been a substitute in schools where one, two, even three different people will pop their heads in to see how things are going, offer any help and insist that I come to them if I have any needs whatsoever. This not only tells me about the quality of people, but that they care about me, the school's overall success, and most of all, their co-worker who is absent for whatever reason. These teachers are positive, they include me in their conversations, and offer me suggestions in my job search. Even a teacher having a rough day, or feeling burned-out, will turn toward his/her class with a smile and encouraging manner, charging into a well-planned lesson as if it were the highlight of their day. I think of this, and think it is worth the wait to start a career in this place! And I remain hopeful that the next 2 weeks will yield such an opportunity
